Eddie Phillips – Creation

eddie_creation

We are delighted to welcome become back to the Modstock stage our old friend and guitar slinger extraordinaire Eddie Phillips from THE CREATION who will no doubt bend a couple of violin bows during the show.

Eddie started out in another great band The Mark Four who would morph into THE CREATION when they joined producer Shel Talmy on Planet Records in 1966. The Mark Four released 4 singles throughout 64/65 including the excellent ‘Work All Day’ and ‘I’m Leaving’ showcasing the talents of the four future Creation men and in particular Eddie’s fantastic guitar sound and style.

The first Creation single was released in June 1966, which was the Mod anthem ‘Making Time’ with ‘Try and Stop Me’ on the flip, this was closely followed up with the pop-art anthem ‘Painter Man/Biff Bang Pow’ with both singles reaching the top 50 in the UK. The bands’ live performances would take the pop art experimentation further still with Kenny Pickett spray painting on canvases while Eddie (who was the first guitarist to use the violin bow technique later popularised by Jimmy Page) would create an exciting wall of sound.

The band moved to Polydor records in 1967 and released several fantastic singles and an album ‘We Are Paintermen’ in Germany where they were hugely popular making regular TV performances and tours. Several line-up changes over the next two years that included former Birds members Ronnie Wood and Kim Gardner before the band imploded in late 68.

Eddie and various members of The Creation have performed down the years for New Untouchables at Margate and Modstock in 2004. We are delighted to welcome Eddie back on stage for ‘Modstock’.

The Stone Foundation

We are excited to announce the second of our revues featuring British legends joining The Stone Foundation on stage. Iconic Mod artists will be announced here over the coming weeks so keep checking back for the latest updates.

The Modstock revue band is one of the best on the scene today, Stone Foundation have performed with distinction backing US soul stars Nolan Porter and Joe Harris. Their hotly anticipated first album “To Find the Spirit” is due for release early 2014. Once the live show has finished at 11.30pm the Modstock revue allnighter begins with Mod classics from the last fifty years spun on 100% vintage vinyl in our fantastic ballroom. And If that wasn’t enough we have two more rooms of partying with the beat basement and the authentic R&B room featuring a guest club and a brilliant International DJ line-up that will melt your mind or the soles on your shoes.
