NUTs Anniversary

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

The New Untouchables started November 1997; Britpop was at its apex and people who had become interested in our music and culture through this new genre because of the undeniable influences. The time was just right for a new surge of Mods and Sixties fans and The New Untouchables were there to encourage them with newsletters, club nights, festivals and weekenders, scooter runs, record fairs, markets and the relatively new phenomenon the internet. New Untouchables have never been afraid to try new ventures. Locations have changed most notably from Isle of Wight to Brighton August bank holiday. In recent years some of the biggest underground acts of the last 5 decades like The Sonics first ever show outside the native USA in 2008, Arthur Lee & Love in 2005, Stax Revue with Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and Eddie Floyd in 2011 have performed for us. However NUTS have encouraged and supported many new bands and DJs for over the last decade including hot new acts like The Strypes who played four live shows throughout 2012/13 including their London debut at Crossfire.

In 2009 a bestselling book entitled ‘I’m One-21st Century Mod’s was released by Prestel. The award winning photographer Horst R Friedrichs spent a decade attending NUTS events all over the UK and his patience paid of with exhibitions and recognition from all round the world. As a thanks to all those who have been involved down the years including the the current team Pip! Pip!, Ellie, Lord Savage, Kolorz, Dave and the Lighthouse Projections Crew, Graham Lentz and the DJ team we host a party.

Mousetrap – Fuzz 4 Freaks

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

THE MOUSETRAP celebrates its 23rd Birthday on 1st March 2014 at the same venue with the same owner which is an incredible feat in the fickle World of club land the friendly and family atmosphere at MOUSETRAP is something we are very proud of here so expect a warm welcome. Huge thanks to the regulars and thousands of visitors over the years who will testify that MOUSETRAP generates an atmosphere like no other. For those who have never been here is a little bit about the venue, a basement club with low ceiling, kicking soundsystem, wooden dancefloor with seating booths around the edge, a cloakroom and in more recent years air conditioning.

The club started life in the basement and quickly moved onto two floors with the SOUL LOFT and BEAT BASEMENT with its checked dancefloor and spiral staircase connecting the two floors. The club prospered for over a decade in this format before the ground floor was sold and we returned to the basement with alternate dances for the different music style once a month to this present day.

Over these two decades the Mousetraps music has been prolific with an abundance of new scene discoveries filtering up to the scene weekenders and festivals with global appeal, sometimes filtering into the mainstream media via TV and Radio adverts.

In 1997 the MOUSETRAP label was born with a free 45 for each customer every anniversary. On one side of the disc from the black music policy of the club and the flipside from the Freakbeat/Garage/Psych playlist and nearly always a record that has been a big spin at the club. Some of these early releases are now commanding big money in their own right and almost as much as the original release.

See below a list of all the MOUSTRAP releases.

A special thanks to all the regulars who supported us down the years and huge gratitude must go to the resident DJ’s who helped me shape the MOUSETRAP soundtrack SPEED, CHRIS DALE, LEE MILLER, GAV EVANS, NICK HUDSON, PID,  JACK WHITE and the many quality guests from all over Europe who have played a blinder over the last twenty years.

Zoo Zoo

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

Zoo Zoo started life back in November 2009 when new Camden venue the Blues Kitchen opened its doors for business. Four years later Zoo Zoo 2 at new Blues Kitchen 2 is opening early 2014 in Curtain road, Shoreditch.

Both venues have a great live music and DJ set up with wooden dance floors, and famous Blues and R&B artists adorned around the walls of the venue and you can even listen to the Blues while you refresh yourself in the toilet. It also has a wide selection of the Blues artist’s favourite Soul food, beers and bourbons on the menu.

New Untouchables night always features two R&B/Blues/Garage/Soul or Rock n Roll bands from the London area and sometimes beyond. One of our favourite shows to date was with Spanish band The Faithkeepers and you can see a clip below from that show. Other artists have included King Salami & Thee Cumberland 3, Jess Roberts, DC Fontana, Thee Vicars, The Draytones, Peppermint Beat Band, New Street Adventure, The Shoestrung, Lewis Floyd Henry, The Burning Condors, Stone Foundation, The Frowning Clouds, Prime Movers, Big Boss Man, The Faith Keepers, and DC Fontana, to name just a few.

After the bands grab a space on the dancefloor and do the Shimmy, Skate or Twist when DJ Dr Robert and special guest take over the turntables and spin 100% pure vinyl right through until 3am with all the above genres covered from big hits to obscure scene classics.
